the serene, hidden heritage of KL
The city of Kuala Lumpur has hidden a gem in the midst of the urban built up and close to the original heart of the city. It is now known as the Tun Abdul Razak Heritage Park. It encompasses an area of 173 acres of land, lush with greenery and an undulating landscape that was once the site of the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens.
Development has brought in the roads that divide the area into defined accessible areas housing various attractions. Over the years, gardens and themed parks have been nurtured to give the tourists, local and foreign, an interesting array of heritage trail and adventure. Practically every part is within walking distance but transport between the attractions can also be arranged for.
The original area that A.R. Venning, the British State Treasurer in 1888, managed to get approval from the British Residence to turn into the gardens stretched from the Parliament House, across to the Muzium Negara.
It took him over ten years to clear the area but one can still see the tall tropical forest trees with their glorious crown, which were left to grow, over the last 100 years.
Venture into this park and you will come away richer with the heritage of Malaysia, be it historically or nature wise, as you will be walking through museums, monuments, gardens, bird and animal parks and a planetarium.
